The ECA and FMI are pleased to launch the Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) in Alberta for the first time. Building on our relationship from our ECA/FMI Canadian Leadership Institute (CLI), which began in 2015, the ELI is a new program focused on developing emerging leaders.

About the Program

Who will run your construction company when you’re gone? What are you doing to prepare your emerging managers to become your successors to manage and lead your company into the future? The ECA and FMI are pleased to a launch the Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) in Alberta for the first time.

Just being a technically skilled builder is not good enough in today’s competitive construction market. Industry research shows that the construction industry has done a good job of developing the knowledge base and technical skills of employees, but a poor job of developing management skills. Although people need to have a solid foundation of technical knowledge, the most successful leaders of the future will have also developed strong management, leadership and business skills in order to grow their company’s profitability.

Your instruction and materials are all covered. If you apply for the Canada-Alberta Job Grant, the cost of the ELI comes down to around ~$1,450. That’s great value, for what may be the most transformational investment you'll ever make in your career.

Canada Alberta Job Grant

The Canada-Alberta Job Grant rebates 66% of tuition costs for eligible applicants. Be sure to get registered  right away, even though the CAJG instructions say not to. The CAJG folks just want to ensure you won’t be out-of-pocket if your grant application is declined. This however is not a concern here. Your ELI registration is reimbursable for up to 30 days prior to training.

The CAJG has introduced an online application process. Employers will now submit applications electronically through Labour’s Workforce Grants Portal available at www.alberta.ca/canada-alberta-jobgrant.aspx .

As long as you don't have an ownership stake in your company, you're probably eligible. The application for the grant must happen by early September.
