Rewards of ECA Membership

Membership in the Edmonton Construction Association means joining together with 1362 companies that buy, design, perform, and support construction in greater Edmonton and Northern Alberta. That's the highest membership we've seen in 85 years of history!

Our 1,362 member firms (2016) include:

  • 295 General Contractors
  • 679 Trade Contractors
  • 296 Manufacturer and Suppliers
  • 92 Associate Members

Growth in the "Associate" membership category is an exciting story. Over the past five years, ECA has made it our goal to become the Hub of Construction Excellence – a place where the core of our historical membership (GCs, Trades, and Manufacturers & Suppliers) can learn and work alongside the buyers and designers of construction. By the end of 2016, several dozen architectural & engineering firms were actively engaged as ECA members.

The ECA aims to Advance our Industry by providing unparalleled service to our member firms. We divide this service into four "Pillars," or areas of focus:

The ECA is committed to helping its members find opportunities and together with our partners, we provide the most construction tendering opportunities in Alberta.

The ECA's Electronic Plan Room, COOLNet, provides Industry access to nearly 4,000 publicly tendered construction projects annually, including pre-bid, pre-qualification notices, and bid results. Members have access to password protected bidders lists, and many projects now have online plans, specifications, and addenda.

Share project documents with your choice of invited partners in a secure environment that the construction industry is already familiar with. Contractors and trades people only see the projects they're invited to and can easily login using their COOLNet user name and password.

This network eliminates the need for multiple FTP sites and makes it easier to manage trade/supplier contact lists. Users can upload their own contact lists as well as invite contacts from the directory. There is also a complete audit trail that logs all document transmittals and communications.

The ECA also continues to provide a Physical Plan Room for members. Members are able to book plans and specifications overnight and weekends, and order full size drawings at member rates.

As an ECA member, you are automatically part of the Alberta Construction Association and the Canadian Construction Association. As such your voice is heard nationwide as we seek to collaborate with all levels of government and industry for the betterment of our member firms. Our primary interest is to work on behalf of our membership to spearhead the initiatives that will grow our industry locally, provincial, nationally, and internationally.

At the ECA we are also highly involved with our partner associations including the Alberta Roadbuilders & Heavy Construction Association (ARHCA), the Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA), the Alberta Association of Architects (AAA), BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association), our partner trade associations, and many more. We do our best to work with all parties to find common solutions.

At the ECA we are focused on bringing members together.

The ECA hosts some 25 networking events per year. These include traditional events such as the Builders Connect Luncheon (AGM) and Night at the Races, as well as Golf Tournaments, Summer Parking Lot Barbeques, and the newly created Meet & Greets. In 2015, over 5,000 members attended ECA events, and gained from increased interactions and business leads.

At the ECA, we are committed to member education.

ECA supports continuous improvement with over 50 courses per year, in critical areas including project management, risk, profitability, leadership, and construction contracts. Members enjoy reduced rates for all education registrations.
